Enrolment Policy
Enrolment Policy and procedures
Purpose
To ensure that students are legally permitted to enrol, have an opportunity to familiarise themselves with school systems, are placed in a class appropriate to their needs, and provide relevant information to caregivers.
Policy
The Board of Trustees has a responsibility to develop and maintain the best possible teaching and learning conditions for both teachers and pupils. Due to lack of classroom space and increasing numbers of children attending, an enrolment scheme will ensure the learning opportunities of children in the Mairangi Bay School community are protected.
Mairangi Bay School does not receive property funding for any child living outside the school home zone. Therefore, due to the financial ramifications, the Board of Trustees does not accept out-of-zone enrolments for new families.
If you move out of our school home zone once your child is already attending, and want to continue at our school, you will need to write to our Board of Trustees to explain the reason for the move. The board of Trustees will not guarantee a place for siblings of children living outside of the home zone.
The Board of Trustees has the right to annul any enrolment based on false information. If the school learns that a child was not permanently living at the home zone address given at the time of enrolment, or the school has reasonable grounds to believe that a temporary home zone residence has been used for gaining enrolment at the school, the Board of Trustees may review that enrolment.
If a student is absent from Mairangi Bay School for more than 21 school days, the Board of Trustees may annul that enrolment.
The Board of Trustees reserves the right to enrol children of staff, who reside outside of the home zone.
Guidelines
When parents/caregivers ask for information about the school, they will be directed to the website to complete an enrolment form online.
If the child is a new entrant (Year 0-1), the person enrolling the child will be emailed more information nearer the start date, which will include:
If a child has already commenced their schooling (Years 1 – 8), the person enrolling the child will be asked to:
The syndicate leader will select an appropriate class for the child. The office staff are notified of class placement by the syndicate leader and inform parents as appropriate.
Organisation
Each year the school will be organised in such a way as to allow for the year’s anticipated enrolments from new entrants in the home zone, and enrolments from children at other levels who are permanently relocating to our home zone.
Criteria
Selection for enrolment will be determined in accordance with the following priority:
